You guys. How excited am I today to bring Aimee Dolich to Artists + Renegades? The answer is VERY. Very excited. I love Aimee. I've not met her in person (yet!), but she is the sweetest and most wonderful soul online, I'm not even joking. You're going to love her (if you don't already!)

So, say hello to Aimee-- she creates the loveiest word-based art you'll ever lay eyes on. She's the latest amazing artist-preneur to join my interview series, Artists + Renegades, to talk about her biggest dreams, best advice, and a lot of fun along the way.

Let's do it!

What’s your BIG DREAM?

It changes every day!

What was your happiest moment in the past week?

When a customer told me that she was painting her kitchen orange to go with two of my prints!

What’s your personal motto?

Look for color everywhere!

Let's play two truths and a lie: mix in two true statements about yourself with one false one, and we'll try to guess which is which in the comments section later.

1) I've been on a wild ride in a cop car in Rio

2) I interviewed once in Gibberish and got the job

3) I make my family eat tons of pickles so I can use the jars for storage.

If you could decorate your home with the work of only one artist, who would it be and why?

Jessica Swift comes to mind...

(editor's note: awwwwww! Blushing over here!)

What "rule" about art, business, or creativity do you think is surprisingly true?

This goes against the grain of everyone who says to think out of the box, but I have much more creative success when I've drawn a line or tossed an anchor out there somewhere to give myself some boundaries. Otherwise I'm too overwhelmed and have no idea where to begin. Once I have defined that spot, the ideas flood in and tell me how they'd like to fill that space. Something about having the security of the borders (it feels like a big creative hug) gives me total freedom to play and stretch the borders as I wish. When I'm finished or get bored with it, I move on and find a new space to play in.

What’s your favorite color combination?

Reddish-orange/magenta/yellow, blue/green, blue/purple/, purple/green (I can't stop...)

How would you describe your job on career day for a kindergarten class?

I just did, on Wednesday, to a bunch of first and second graders! I'm teaching a Do-a-Doodle workshop over their lunch hour for the next month. I actually didn't have to explain a thing to them. I just put Sharpies in their hands and they knew immediately what to do. And by extension they understood what I do.

What song lyric did you hear wrong for a really, really long time?

Margaritaville: I thought "stepped on a pop top" was "stepped on a Pop-Tart".

You're on-stage at a talent show. What do you do?

Call everyone I know up on stage to do what they do best, and then I capture it all in a doodle. I draw (so to speak) on others' antics for inspiration!

Please share your favorite photo of an adorable baby animal.

I have lots of pictures of adorable little girls (I have two of them), but alas, none of animals.

(Editor's note again: they ARE adorable!)

If you had to live your life according to the advice of one TV personality, who would it be and why?

Jim Cantore. He's always on the move, and he goes right for the eye of the storm!

I'm Aimee, a writer-doodler-adventurer who loves color. I like to play around in New York City, I stay up later than I should, and I drink lots of coffee!

Where to find Aimee:

Thanks, Aimee!! :)

Ummm... you mean it's not "Pop-Tart?!" Doh! I always (up until this moment) pictured Jimmy stumbling on the beach getting his flip flops gooey with sandy Pop-Tart innards. Haha!

Great interview. Glad to be introduced to your work Aimee. Your "village" sounds a lot like mine! And I agree, that boundaries (of all kinds) can actually lead to freedom if you use them right.
